Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)
|
“The Pooch” , the lower belly protuberance which is resistant to diet and exercise, is the most common factor which drives women to seek cosmetic surgery of the tummy. These women are very frustrated. Many have tried getting rid of it with almost anything short of “invasive” surgery but often with repeated disappointing results.
While exercise is beneficial to your health it cannot physically take the redundant and separated six pack (rectus) muscles and put them back in contact with each other. The muscle separation (also known as Diastasis) can ONLY be corrected by surgically joining the Six Pack (Rectus) muscles together in a well-done Tummy Tuck operation.
People and their tummies come in all sizes. Therefore, no “one” plastic surgery procedure can adequately address all their needs and very different anatomies. (Put differently, it is highly unlikely that the same tummy tuck procedure would produce ideal results in a 150 pound, 45y/o mother of 3 children, a 110 pound, 29 y/o never-married female fitness instructor and a 200 pound 45 y/o man with love handles).

Every woman has one or more of the following pregnancy related deformities that she would like corrected: - Excess and Loose Tummy Skin - Stretch Marks of the Lower Tummy Skin - the “Pooch” - An “outie’ Belly Button and / or small hernias and, or - Sagging and or prominent Mons pubis In reading about Tummy Tuck surgery, you doubtless read about a confusing collection of Tummy Tuck procedures and combination of procedures. Each procedure has its own advantages and disadvantages and cannot be successful in every woman. If you researched abdominal enhancement, you doubtless read about a confusing myriad of tummy procedures; mini-tummy tuck, short-scar tummy tuck, liposuction tummy tuck and tummy tuck with liposuction, among others.

suited for you. Dr. Aldea and Dr. Eby will answer all your questions and educate you on all your cosmetic surgery options. They will discuss each option and help you pick the least invasive procedure which may address your individual abdominal issues.
Tummy Tuck Procedure
The “classic” Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty) uses an incision in the lower abdomen which is normally hidden within the "panty line". Your excess lower tummy fat and skin are pulled down and the separated muscles of the abdominal wall are brought back to midline re-creating a narrower, sexier waistline. Your excess lower tummy fat and skin along with any of its scars (cesarean section, hysterectomy or appendectomy), is then pulled down and removed. Finally, your navel is then bought out again (as an “innie”) in the midline of your new, much flatter tummy. This basic tummy tuck removes the sagging lower abdominal skin and fat, (along with its stretch marks and old surgery scars), corrects any underlying midline abdominal hernia, if one exists and it tightens the underlying rectus muscles - resulting in a flatter, more toned tummy. In people with pooching of the tummy and loose abdominal skin, the key to cosmetic success is returning their tummy muscles from the sides back to the midline and removing the overhanging excess of tummy skin and fat. In other words, for a nice result, these people require a formal tummy tuck. But, a tummy tuck ≠ tummy tuck ≠ tummy tuck. Even in such patients, for several reasons, not all surgeons perform the same tummy tuck. Like many operations in Plastic Surgery, the particular type of tummy tuck performed on you would be extremely dependent your surgeon’s skill and philosophy of what he / she wants to achieve. Using an innovative Tummy Tuck procedure introduced in the 1990’s in Kansas City, Dr. Aldea and Dr. Eby may be able to: flatten your tummy,

reduce your size (i.e. shorter waist circumference and shorter from your navel to your back), to narrow your waist to a sexier, more youthful appearance, to lift sagging privates (mons pubis) back to a more attractive, youthful position and potentially even to lift smooth lateral thigh sagginess and smoothing cellulite dimples.

What should a Tummy Tuck accomplish for you?
|
| The Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty) procedure takes 3 - 5 hours depending on the amount of skin and tissue to be removed. Most Plastic surgeons prefer to do this operation with general anesthesia, so you'll sleep comfortably through the operation. A Tummy Tuck may be done as a team effort with another procedure (i.e. a gynecologist doing a hysterectomy or bladder suspension). We also frequently combine this procedure with liposuction of the back to improve the appearance and definition of your buttocks (Please, see our BUTTOCK Augmentation and BEAUTY pages on this website) or a breast augmentation or lift. Recovery - Temporary pain is relieved with pain medication pills. You should expect swelling, soreness, and numbness of abdominal skin, bruising or redness for several weeks. Major complications bleeding, blood clots, infection, poor healing resulting in a conspicuous scar, small area of numbness in midline just above the scar, or need for a second revisionary operation. However, they are

unusual. Back to work: average 2 - 4 weeks. More strenuous activity (including gym): average 4 - 6 weeks. The best candidates for Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty) are healthy women and men who are in relatively good shape but are bothered by an abdominal protuberance (hammock, pooch etc) and loose abdominal skin that has not improved with proper diet or exercise. This Plastic Surgery procedure is particularly great in women who, after pregnancy(ies), have permanently stretched their abdominal muscles and skin beyond the point where they can return to normal. If possible, a Tummy Tuck should be postponed in patients who intend either to lose a lot more weight and in women who plan future pregnancies. A subsequent pregnancy will separate the abdominal muscles and undo the benefits of the surgery. The operation should not be done in those who are morbidly obese, in those who have several systemic diseases (such as diabetes, heart disease or Lupus) and it should not be done in smokers. The rates of serious complications in both active and second-hand smokers are significant. Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty) is cosmetic surgery with excellent results which transforms lives. The results are long lasting if you follow a balanced diet, exercise regularly and do not become pregnant. The positive transformation is immediate and our patients LOVE it! (Click here for REVIEWS and see "Plastic Surgery Magician" comments). COSTS - You can get a good idea of the current professional fees charged for Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty) by other ABPS board-certified Plastic surgeons across the country, by checking the latest fee survey by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons of the professional fees charges by its members. (Please, check it on our Fees and Costs page). Our fees are extremely competitive, not only within our own metropolitan Memphis area, but ESPECIALLY in comparison with fees charged by plastic surgeons elsewhere in the United States. This remains applicable even when travel and lodging expenses are added. Our office works with several financing companies which would make your Tummy Tuck cosmetic surgery very affordable. But the dollar cost of tummy tuck is routinely eclipsed by its REAL value. As a plastic surgery procedure, which greatly improves appearance, makes people more attractive and turbo-charges their self-confidence, it is hard to put a price on the actual value of a tummy tuck. Tummy Tuck cosmetic surgery transforms lives. It transforms introverts into extroverts. Many of our patients repeatedly tell us just how thrilled they are with their new found sexy figure and being attractive again to their husbands. Unprompted, the majority tell us that the ONLY regret they had is not having had their tummy tucks sooner! Please, consult our SPECIAL OFFERS page for details on our time-limited Plastic Surgery savings for the holidays.
